Settling into a New Normal - A New Centre

Pastor Meng Chiam

Tabernacle is also call a 'tent'

Exodus 25:8
And let them make Me a sanctuary,[a] that I may dwell among them.

Big Idea:
Yahweh wants all to participate in the building of His kingdom.

1. CONTRIBUTE TO THE CAUSE COLLECTIVELY

Exodus 35:4-9
And Moses spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, “This is the thing which the Lord commanded, saying: 5 ‘Take from among you an offering to the Lord. Whoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it as an offering to the Lord: gold, silver, and bronze; 6 blue, purple, and scarlet thread, fine linen, and goats’ hair; 7 ram skins dyed red, badger skins, and acacia wood; 8 oil for the light, and spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet incense; 9 onyx stones, and stones to be set in the ephod and in the breastplate.

1A. Varied
1B. Inclusive

Exodus 35:22
They came, both men and women, as many as had a willing heart, and brought earrings and nose rings, rings and necklaces, all jewelry of gold, that is, every man who made an offering of gold to the Lord.

Exodus 35:29
The children of Israel brought a freewill offering to the Lord, all the men and women whose hearts were willing to bring material for all kinds of work which the Lord, by the hand of Moses, had commanded to be done.

1C. Freewill

Exodus 36:3
And they received from Moses all the offering which the children of Israel had brought for the work of the service of making the sanctuary. So they continued bringing to him freewill offerings every morning.

1D. Generous

Exodus 35:21
Then everyone came whose heart [a]was stirred, and everyone whose spirit was willing, and they brought the Lord’s offering for the work of the tabernacle of meeting, for all its service, and for the holy garments.

All are to contribute generously to the cause.

All can contribute generously to the cause.

2. EXERCISE GOD-GIVEN GIFTS EFFECTIVELY

Exodus 35:10
All who are gifted artisans among you shall come and make all that the Lord has commanded:

Exodus 35:25
All the women who were gifted artisans spun yarn with their hands, and brought what they had spun, of blue, purple, and scarlet, and fine linen.

Skillful craftsmen, women.... Every visionary require somebody on the ground to do the work.

2A. Image

2B. To Inspire

Exodus 35:30-33
And Moses said to the children of Israel, “See, the Lord has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; 31 and He has filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom and understanding, in knowledge and all manner of workmanship, 32 to design artistic works, to work in gold and silver and bronze, 33 in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of artistic workmanship.

Bezalel is privilege to be the first person in the Old Testament that God filled him with the Spirit.

2C. To Instruct
Exodus 35:34
And He has put in his heart the ability to teach, in him and Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan.

God gave them something more... the gift of teaching. There's just so much we can do if we're skillful, we need to desire the gift of teaching to teach others.

All are to use their gifts effectively and with excellence.

1 Peter 4:10-11
As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 If anyone speaks, let him speak as the [a]oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the [b]dominion forever and ever. Amen.

3. FOLLOW GOD'S BLUEPRINT FAITHFULLY

Exodus 25:9
According to all that I show you, that is, the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furnishings, just so you shall make it.

Exodus 39:42-43
According to all that the Lord had commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did all the work. 43 Then Moses looked over all the work, and indeed they had done it; as the Lord had commanded, just so they had done it. And Moses blessed them.

Israel did not deviate from God's blueprint. There's a reason why they were commended because they followed exactly what the lord asked them to.

3A. The Presence

In this design of the tabernacle, God says not only is He above us, God wants to be among us. The tabernacle has to be portable, quick to dismantle, quick to setup.

3B. The Pattern

John 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Ultimately, the tabernacle (dwell) would be the incarnate Christ, not made by men.

Revelation 21:3
And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.

Jesus' death atone our sin and averted God's wrath

Why was the veil torn from top to bottom?
Now in Jesus God can once again freely dwell among His people.

1 Peter 2:4-5
Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

(joke) A rolling stone gathers no moss but a living stone starts with a cross.

We are also a spiritual house of God

Hebrews 10:24-25
And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

We need to gather together to become His spiritual house. We are strong alone but we are stronger together. There's a dimension we cannot replace or substitue. We gather to worship Him, to present ourselves before the Lord.

We bear witness to God, by showing love, exalting one another, encourage one another.

We are not doing it for ourselves, but unto the Lord. We're to become God's building disciples.

It's not the amount, it's the Act.

Did Jesus Really Die?

Pastor Wilson Teo

- some believed he fainted and someone resuscitated
- some believed he fake death and escape later

Matthew 27:26-31
Pilate let Barabbas go free. But he had Jesus whipped. Then he handed him over to be nailed to a cross. The governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the palace, which was called the Praetorium. All the rest of the soldiers gathered around him. They took off his clothes and put a purple robe on him. Then they twisted thorns together to make a crown. They placed it on his head. They put a stick in his right hand. Then they fell on their knees in front of him and made fun of him. “We honor you, king of the Jews!” they said. They spit on him. They hit him on the head with the stick again and again. After they had made fun of him, they took off the robe. They put his own clothes back on him. Then they led him away to nail him to a cross.

These roman whips made of thick leather with sharp bones and metal balls

Whipping done on back of body to cause deep cuts and wounds. Veins, tissues, ligaments, skeleton tissues broken.

Based in historical findings, those will go to state of shock termed hypovolemic shock which means losing large amounts of blood. Causing one to faint or collapses plus crave for fluid to replace large losses of lost blood

Jesus was already mortally wounded and in critical condition even before the crucifixion

7 inches long to drive through His feet

The word excruciating originated with the meaning of "out of the cross"

The force of Jesus' weight would have dislocated both his shoulders, adding further death

Media its called asphyxiation

How did Jesus died on the cross?
The weight pulls him down and the air he breathes in stops at the lungs. To breathe out he needs to push himself up fro the nail wound. Eventually exhaustion took over and jc does not have strength on the cross anymore to push himself to breathe further. Medically the fluid around the lung and heart which look like water,, when a soldier pierce his side with spear and came out blood and water.

John 19:33-34
But when they came to Jesus, they saw that he was already dead. So they did not break his legs. Instead, one of the soldiers stuck his spear into Jesus’ side. Right away, blood and water flowed out.

Jesus did not survive the cross and his death can be medically proven

We cannot see dinosaurs today but we can see fossils

The earlier evidence of Jesus' resurrection was found in an ancient manuscript written within 20 years after Jesus resurrection.

1 corinthians 15:3-8
What I received I passed on to you. And it is the most important of all. Here is what it is. Christ died for our sins, just as Scripture said he would. He was buried. He was raised from the dead on the third day, just as Scripture said he would be. He appeared to Peter. Then he appeared to the 12 apostles. After that, he appeared to more than 500 brothers and sisters at the same time. Most of them are still living. But some have died. He appeared to James. Then he appeared to all the apostles. Last of all, he also appeared to me. I was like someone who wasn’t born at the right time.

Paul stated different groups of people witnessed Jesus, and at one time to 500

Psycologist would say mass hallucination is Impossible. People see him at different time and different location is impossible.

Thomas came all the way from Israel to Asia, southern state of India.

11 of them died as martyrs and the remaining one died as an exile on the Greek island of Patmos.

Death of 2 of the 11 martyrs. Cephas was crucified in Rome cos he testified of Jesus Christ fiercelessly.. he requested to be crucified upside down cos he felt unworthy

Thomas was pierced to death who openly testified of Jesus Christ crucifixion even though he was warned

Why would anyone die for a lie after 30 years?

Jesus death and resurrection impacted the twelve disciples so profoundly that they would die willingly for Jesus.

Christ resurrection shows us that in the same way, He will resurrect us when our time ends on this earth.

False Confession

Ps Joey asher tan

False confession

Big idea:
How to live out kingdom convictions under life's pressures

1# Stay humble for we'll inevitably falter
Luke 22:3
Luke 4:13
Luke 22:31-34

"Sift u like wheat"
- Is a Warfare language, indicating Satan seeking to shake believers like wheat to cause us to fall

"Turned again"
- Peter had repented
1. Stopping in your sin
2. Turn around in opposite direction
3. Walk towards God and walk with Him

"And when you have turned again"
- one can even repent from denying Christ
- he knows that human opposition will cause us to crumble

1 peter 5:5
- Your faith may falter but not destroyed, stay humble

2# Surrender ourselves daily to His lordship
Luke 22:54-62

Yielding to temptation isn't just about doing the wrong thing, but also not doing the right thing

Where our Own safety and personal well being stand during critical times of the lord?

Hebrews 7:25

Jesus is praying for us even when we have denied Him

Even when we fail Jesus we must remember that Jesus can still use us so long as I turned back.

Are you afraid to say "no" to sin or are you afraid to confess your faith in the face of your friends?
And let these fears and bad influence to Wash over you and silence you?

Matt 10:26-33
Luke 24:12
Who Jesus is to you depends on what resurrection means to you
- who is Jesus to you?

3# Stay the course despite our shortcomings

Glorifying God in our pursuits has nothing to do with our grades and performance but His Grace and His purpose in our lives

Luke 22:23
John 21:18-19

False confession can feel like flat out lies, offensive, meaningless and insincere.

Luke recorded some false confession made by Jesus disciples and friends

Fuzzy Perception

Pastor Wilson

Title: Fuzzy perception

Big idea:
Live out kingdom purpose with God's perspectives

This message will Unpack Peter struggles of those things happening around him

Matthew 16:13-23
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter,[a] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[b] will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[c] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[d] loosed in heaven.” 20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah. Jesus Predicts His Death 21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. 22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!” 23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

Peter was affirmed by his confession of Jesus being Christ, the Son of the living God. It was big deal becos it came from divine revelation from God.

"The keys of the kingdom of heaven"
Matthew 16:19
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[a] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[b] loosed in heaven.”

Refers to authority that came with faith in Jesus Christ

"Binding and loosing"
Matthew 16:19
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[a] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[b] loosed in heaven.”

Refers to authority that came with faith in Jesus Christ

Refers spiritual warfare. A warfare language used in Christ's authority when dealing with evil spiritual forces. Especially in delivering people from evil demonic activities, used in Christ authority when dealing with spiritual forces.

Peter rebuked Jesus because of Matthew 16:22:
Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”

(1) God's revelation of Christ to Peter
But the problem with Peter revelation was not complete cos it does not have the full picture of what will happen

(2) the Jews expectation of the Messiah
- They believe it will be of military ruler
- but all of these were human expectation, never the promise of God

The suffering of Jesus did not match the Jews perception of the Messiah

Jesus was addressing the same tactics used by Satan to lure Jesus away from His mission on earth. With Peter incomplete revelation of Jesus, Peter articulated the same oftentimes of the devil to derail Jesus from His true mission

Matthew 16:23
Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

Why Jesus was not the military ruler to establish a jewish earthly kingdom?

John 18:33-36
Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” 34 “Is that your own idea,” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?” 35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?” 36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”

Jesus came to establish a spiritual kingdom that would unite Jews and gentiles, all nations

We're never tasked to build power bases and earthly empires. Jesus does not need all these for people to come into God's kingdom. Its always true willing heart, submission to the lordship of Jesus, you will enter into the kingdom of heaven.

The entry into God's kingdom is through a willing heart submitted to the lordship of Jesus

Matthew 16:23
Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

- For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man

Acts 2:22-24
“Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23 This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men,[a] put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.

- Peter's posture changed in contrast to Matthew 16

This incident took place Where Jews from all nations gather to celebrate day of pentacost

Peter perspective change once he understood God's intent.

A. One could have revelation from God and yet missed what God wanted to do
- Peter revelation was accurate but incomplete.
- even after that rebuke in Matthew 16, Peter still did not comprehend fully according to Matthew 26:50-54
