The cost of mission - How to increase the tangible presence of God in your life?

by Pastor Naresh

Genesis 12:1-4
Now the Lord said[a] to Abram, “Go from your country[b] and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”[c] 4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

Three Principles:
1. When you meet God, He sends you out
2. You cannot be a blessing to others unless you are willing to lose
3. When God sends you out, you will lose things but God will bless you

Christian ministry is taking your gifts and resources and using them to meet the needs of people in Christ's name

1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

Whenever you meet God face to face,
Whenever you get a grip on who God really is,
It changes you into a person in mission

From inside out

From
self- centredness to others-centredness

Get out of your culture, Family, Friends, your comfort zone

Eg.
Abraham
Moses
Peter
Isaiah

Isaiah 6
In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train[a] of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”[b] 4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!” 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.” Isaiah's Commission from the Lord 8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” 9 And he said, “Go, and say to this people: “‘Keep on hearing,[c] but do not understand; keep on seeing,[d] but do not perceive.’ 10 Make the heart of this people dull,[e] and their ears heavy, and blind their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.” 11 Then I said, “How long, O Lord?” And he said: “Until cities lie waste without inhabitant, and houses without people, and the land is a desolate waste, 12 and the Lord removes people far away, and the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land. 13 And though a tenth remain in it, it will be burned[f] again, like a terebinth or an oak, whose stump remains when it is felled.” The holy seed[g] is its stump.

Every time you encounter God, it should push you out. God will expose you of your sins. Then He sends you out

John 17:18
As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.

You lose your consumer mentality

2. You cannot be a blessing to others unless you are willing to lose

Get out of your self, homeland, familiar zone, safety zone, take great risk, make great moves

You might have to alter your lifestyle sacrificially Because our God give sacrificially to save you and me

Isaiah 53:2-3
For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected[a] by men, a man of sorrows[b] and acquainted with[c] grief;[d] and as one from whom men hide their faces[e] he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

3. When God sends you out, you will lose things but God will bless you

You will lose earthly blessings but you will gain heavenly presence

Change citizenship to change sides

by Pastor Meng Cham

Pleading
Encouraging
Moving people
From kingdom of darkness into kingdom of light

Big idea:
Jesus teaches prayer as kingdom warfare - Forming disciples to stand firm and align with God in spiritual battle

We could be using a wrong tool to serve God

Use prayer:
1. Communication
2. Communion
3. Consecration

Prayer is essential and foundational for advancing God's kingdom

# Pray because we need to

Luke 11:1-4
One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” 2 He said to them, “When you pray, say: “‘Father,[a] hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.[b] 3 Give us each day our daily bread. 4 Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.[c] And lead us not into temptation.

Disciple Making is spiritual warfare

A Prayer of alignment:

1. "Father"
Reminds us of whose we are

2. "Your kingdom come"
Keeps us in the right perspective

3. "Give us this day"
Frees us from daily anxiety and worry

4. "Forgive us our sins for we ourselves forgive everyone"
Focuses us on the main thing

5. "Leads us not into temptation"
Alerts us to the threats among us

Don't let people who are unpeaceable trip is or derail us. Just shake the dust off and stay align.

Prayer should be our first weapon, not last weapon

Prayer keeps us aligned to our assignment and faithful to the commission Jesus gave us

To foster a rhythm of prayer and alignment:
1. Shift our morning ritual
2. Reimagine our lunch break
3. Limit our screen time

Forgo your routine instinctively

# Pray because we have a good Father
Luke 11:5-7
Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; 6 a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ 7 And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’

Parable about friends

Luke 11:8
I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity[a] he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.

Impudence in this sense is bold and persistence to the point of shamelessness

Shameful Vs shameless example

Our repeated prayers don't annoy God

Luke 11:9-10
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Surrender and yield our prayers

1 John 5:14-15
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

If God doesn't answer is Only because He has something better in store for me

Luke 11:11-13
“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for[a] a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Holy Spirit is absolutely necessary for warfare

Methods will change but dependence in Holy Spirit will remain

The Holy Spirit is our greatest weapon in spiritual warfare

Disciple Making is impossible apart from Holy Spirit empowerment

It's just Too much resistance, rejection and too much ridicule

2 Corinthians 10:4
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

True Disciple Makers are Spirit dependent, not self reliant

We have a good, able and loving Father

Start partnering with the Holy Spirit:
1. Ask the lord for 1-2 persons
2. Seek His face for how and what to say and do
3. Identify and intercede against any foothold
4. Get others to pray together with you

Following the way : Living with kingdom purpose (Step up, step out)

by Pastor Joey Asher

Sometimes effective ministry means adjusting how we communicate while keeping what we communicate unchanged

We don't need to be someone else, be yourself while you adapt how to connect with others

Big Idea:
Jesus sent out His disciples to proclaim the kingdom of God

1. Step up when Jesus called
Luke 9:1-2
When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, 2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

Disciples Sent out with Power and authority to cast out demons and cure diseases with Jesus power and authority

Luke 9:3
He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt.

Why Jesus commanded against tradition?
The best ministry happens when we depend on God, not sel. Oftentimes,Evangelism and Disciple-Making begin with simple obedience

2. Step out despite opposition
Luke 10:1-3
After this the Lord appointed seventy-two[a] others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. 2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. 3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.

Deuteronomy 32:8-9
When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance, when he divided all mankind, he set up boundaries for the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel.[a] 9 For the Lord’s portion is his people, Jacob his allotted inheritance.

Spirit and powered disciples, God was reclaiming his kingdom what was scattered Genesis 10

God's kingdom isn't limited to one people group but for everyone

What was scattered at Babel will be restored through us who will do the works

Beyond safety and witnesses. Travelling two by two fulfilled legal requirements..
Deuteronomy 19:15
One witness is not enough to convict anyone accused of any crime or offense they may have committed. A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.

Luke 10:2
He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

Harvest don't wait to be reaped at people's convenience in Luke's time because of the farming cultural

The fields are ready now! Step out even when there's opposition

Luke 10:3
Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.

Mission are dangerous and with oppositions

Because it invades spiritual territories of enemies, it is a spirit and supernatural battles. Response with peace and healing

Depend on God our shepherd to strengthen us because non believers are rejecting the message due to their discomfort

1 Corinthians 1:18
Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.

We offered you peace and healing but you rejected. We're not responsible for your choice

Our job is to share Clearly and lovingly, the HS is responsible for the result

When people reject the gospel, it's not your failure.
Your job is faithful witness, not successful conversion.
You are responsible for sharing the message clearly and lovingly.
The Holy Spirit is responsible for the result.

3. Stay grounded in our identity
Luke 10:17-20
The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.” 18 He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

To Luke's readers Lightning signifies a swift and total defeat

Every act of proclamation, when you set someone free of lies and speak freedom, when salvation happens, when healing takes place etc are all part of Satan's irreversible downfall!

Disciples of Jesus can be confident and secure because they are assured of divine protection and victory in the presence of danger

Jesus wants to Shift the disciples from temporary success to eternal identity and spiritual freedom and secured reality

It is not Our ministry service or recognition

True joy in ministry is not found in spiritual victories but in secure relationship with the father in heaven.

Alpha is a good opportunity to find Life, meaning, purpose and faith for non believers

Faith School : No faith and great faith

by Pastor Peter lim

Real life, real faith

Real life is hard
Keep calm and learn to rest on the float of God's grace

Big idea:
Discipleship means learning to trust Jesus in difficult and overwhelming moments

Luke 7:1-10
After he had finished all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum. 2 Now a centurion had a servant[a] who was sick and at the point of death, who was highly valued by him. 3 When the centurion[b] heard about Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his servant. 4 And when they came to Jesus, they pleaded with him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy to have you do this for him, 5 for he loves our nation, and he is the one who built us our synagogue.” 6 And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. 7 Therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed. 8 For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 9 When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him, said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.” 10 And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant well.

Above verse records how Jesus ministered to three individual:
1. Centurion
2. Widow with one child..
3. A sinful woman

# Jesus cared for outsiders, marginalised

- Centurion did not know Jesus personally
- He did not know he can access with Jesus
- centurion did not feel worthy of direct contact with Jesus

# centurion recognised Jesus supreme authority

Centurion knew Jesus word was effective even though spoken from a distance, not even alot of Jesus followers

# Jesus marvels not at religious acts but at authentic trust

Faith is trust in who Jesus is
Confidence in His word
And corresponding actions

Real faith trusts what Jesus says and act on it

@@ Application 1
Trust God's word and call on Jesus
- Read the gospels regularly and internalise their truths
- Call on Jesus boldly

A bold statement from the centurion. Faith is more than trusting but accompanied with corresponding action, act on your faith, ask Jesus for help and trust Him! Call on Jesus boldly

Let's have faith that amazes Jesus

As disciple-makers, we need to model faith in Jesus authority and His word. It is more impactful that purely theoretical session

Jesus commanded the storms to cease. This was perfect discipleship moment for the disciples.
Jesus ask why the disciple faith not show during crisis?

Who then is this? Who is Jesus that even the winds and waves obey Him. Surely he's not just a carpenter

Psalm 89:9
You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, you still them.

Psalm 107:29
He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed.

This incident shows Jesus is lord over seas and nature, it shows that Jesus is God, this is recognising Jesus divine identity

Real faith recognises who Jesus is - and rest fully in Him

Jesus is the Saviour-Messiah, Son of God, Deliverer, Healer and King

Matthew 16:17
And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.

Do I really know who Jesus is?

Real faith is anchored on the person of Jesus

X Faith is not convinced of the outcome

It's about how great your God is, not how great your faith is

"You do not need a great faith, but faith in a great God"

How do I truly rest on Jesus?

@@ Application 2
Grow to know Jesus in the storm
- Talk to Jesus more in the storm (not "You in crisis", but "Christ is in you")
- Experience Jesus in the storm

"Discipleship maturity grows through adversity; storms serve as divine classrooms as leaders are shaped"

What does Jesus say about me?
- Internalise this question through the word of God
- Jesus honour this step of trust

Luke 8:22-25
One day he got into a boat with his disciples, and he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side of the lake.” So they set out, 23 and as they sailed he fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water and were in danger. 24 And they went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging waves, and they ceased, and there was a calm. 25 He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and they marveled, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that he commands even winds and water, and they obey him?”

# It was Jesus who led the disciples to cross the lake

Does obedience guarantee a life free of all storms?
No! Let this be a learning lesson to us

Jesus sleeping symbolises perfect confidence in God, he modeled a life of peace while chaos raged all around

Rest and rely on Jesus then you will see how He is faithful, sometimes through storms He strengthen you to go through storms allowing you to experience Christ then you will see how true and faithful He is to bring you through

God is the giver and sustainer of life
