Leadership @ Work

Pastor Lee Meng Cham

1 Thessalonians 5:14
Paul was speaking to the thessolonians and the leaders in this verse

As a boss, what is the catalyst you have that there is a reason to stay on because of who you are. A leader not only lead down, a leader can lead up and lead across as a form of influence. But the most important and the hardest to lead is self leadership.

Leaders are God's representatives in influencing people and harnessing resources through fruitful occupation for the betterment of society now and for the future.

Can you believe after just 42 months the lord can hand over the large of the kingdom to the 12 disciples although they were initially even clueless to His crucificion.

Jesus lead us by 3-fold model. This is the model of the leader that God wants us to follow :
Prophet - Priest - King

Teacher Prophet (TEACH as a PROPHET)
- Warn those who are idle and disruptive
- Speaks for God, communicating God's truth to the people
- A teacher prophet Define reality (what is, whom do we serve, for what purpose)
- Romans 12:8
- A teacher prophet need to tap into the spirit of God, not base on your ability
- a teacher prophet shape culture towards kingdom values, biblical principles by instilling good character and vision (is the vision of God? is the vision for God? is the vision from God?)
- a teacher prophet is a change agent leader, motivating and inspiring

"Great leaders teach, and great teachers lead"

Every great leader is a great teacher, and the greatest leaders seize every opportunity to teach well
- Albert Mohler -

"Often we think that we do not know enough to be able to teach others...... but when we have the courage to share generously with others all that we know, whenever they ask for it, we soon discover that we know a lot more than we thought. It is only by giving generously from the well of our knowledge that we discover how deep that well is."
- Henri Nouwen -

Shepherd Priest (SHEPHERD as a PRIEST)
- Define role
- a shepherd priest provide safety through trust, and space which is room for making failure
- a shepherd priest provide proper welfare
- a shepherd priest encourage the disheartened (1 Peter 5:2-4)
- a shepherd priest loves his sheep (but you must know your sheep first)
- we are human being (sheep) likely to fail

Servant King (SERVE as a KING)
- Help the weak
- Define Responsibility (not lording over but serving)
- a servant king does not take but give
- Servanthood is not the way to lead, it is a way to serve (1 Samuel 8 the people ask Samuel for a king)
- a servant king has the power and ability to govern. This power is to benefit others, not for yourself. It is used to harness people for the common good
- Mark 10:42-45
- a servant king provide nurture (knowing competence, leads the people in their self leadership. To be excellence is to do something better today than yesterday)
- Failure is the beginning & the springboard of work
- a servant king promotes unity, achieve synergy as a whole

1 Samuel 8:11-18 The Problem with Kings
- Take your sons and make them serve
- Take your daughters
- Take your best fields, vineyards, olive groves
- Take a tenth of your grain and flocks
- Take for his own use

"Leadership is the use of power. But power, to be ethical, must never be abused. To ensure that, one rule cannot be broken : Power is to be used only for the benefit of others, never for yourself."
- Dr Peter Koestenbaum -
