Mind Games - Doubt to fear

by Pastor Wilson

Matthew 11:2-6

John's Presupposition
# John was imprisoned by Herod Antipas for opposing Herod's marriage to his sister in law

# He was eager to know the latest update of Jesus
1. John was the older cousin of Jesus, even as foetus John leapt in Elizabeth's womb

# John baptized Jesus and witnessed God affirming Jesus as the Son of God

John 3:10-12

As the last Old Testament prophet, John had high expectation on Jesus messianic ministry

# John was affected by all that he heard about Jesus

# John began to wonder if he had proclaimed the right Messiah in Jesus

# John wondered if he had lived his life in vain

This happen because John had an expectation of Jesus, John could not see the true intent of Jesus while going through the crisis

# Jesus cited messianic quotations from Isaiah 29, 35 and 61

# Jesus first coming was for the reconciliation between God and Man
- Jesus second coming will be for judgement day

# John took offense because of a partial understanding of God's purpose through Christ

# John framed his understanding from his perspective and not from Christ's

> Equpped with a right understanding of God (theology)

> Read the bible regularly, hide the word in your heart and the Holy Spirit can speak to you in times of need

> Participate in life-on-life, cell group. There is no perfect cell leader, be part of the group even though you have been wounded before. Let the Holy Spirit guide you and heal you

> Be ready for inner life formation
- it doesn't mean when you walk in God's will, everything will be smooth sailing
- it doesn't mean God is not with you
- we can sense His opening door when everything is shut, we sense His presence, we sense His Shalom......
- God is not only interested in doing something through you. God is also interested in doing something IN YOU
- Before He can do through you, He must do something great WITHIN you first
- Do not despise what God is doing in your life right now
- Allow the Holy Spirit to mould you to fulfil God's ultimate destiny in you
