Big idea:
God wants us to have physical health to represent Him on earth and relate well with others
Genesis 1:26
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
Image of God does not refers to physical outlook, stronger, physical functions. It's a state that animal kingdom does not have.
A status given to humans to represent God and bring life and order through their dominion on earth.
Genesis 2:5
Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth[a] and no plant had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground,
Physical realm were barren as human were yet to be created. God had in mind that the eco system to work
Genesis 2:7-9
Then the Lord God formed a man[a] from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
8 Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. 9 The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
- God created humanity with the status to have dominion over the earth.
- Humans are physically embodied to interact with the world and steward its resources.
Christ had a spiritual body that allows disciples to recognise, dined....
The resurrected Christ was embodied in a body with corporeal expressions and yet spiritual in nature.
1 Corinthians 15:42-49
So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.
If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”[a]; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. 48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven. 49 And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we[b] bear the image of the heavenly man.
Human influence is in the physical realm. As long as you are alive today, you are embodied to function in the physical realm
1 Kings 19:4
while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”
1 Kings 19:5-8
Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep.
All at once an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.” 6 He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again.
7 The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” 8 So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God.
God met Elijah in the wilderness, He knows he is emotionally stressed and let him sleep.
Elijah is emotionally burnout.
God fed him and gave him rest.
The first area is that of rest (7-8 hours) otherwise, body cannot be optimal for the following day's works
The second area is food intake. We need to be conscientious with food intake, with proper nutrients and minerals. Supplements with nutrients and minerals to stay healthy, optimal. Eat well for physical vitality.
The third area is that of exercise.
1 Kings 19:8
So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God.
Happy hormones are call endorphins
The fourth area is mental rejuvenation.
1 Kings 19:11-12
The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.
Elijah nearly lost his purpose if not for God's intervention. God targeted on his physical well being.
